Just a home that starts to feel a little warmer, a little softer, a little more lived in. Branches clipped from outside. Lamps on before dinner. Baskets by the door. Darker woods and worn-in textures. Something simmering in the kitchen. Windows open while we still can. I think the best seasonal decorating is less about adding fall things and more about creating the feeling you want to come home to. This is mine. I’m not interested in designing homes that only fe I’m not interested in designing homes that only feel calm when everything is perfectly clean and put away. I want a home that feels good in the middle of real life. Backpacks by the door. Dinner on the stove. Kids coming in and out. A half-finished cup of coffee that’s been reheated three times. A home can hold all of that and still feel like an exhale. For me, that comes from warm lighting, natural materials, layers and texture, thoughtful storage, comfortable furniture and rooms that feel collected rather than overly styled. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s creating a home that makes everyday life feel a little softer. That’s the kind of home I want to design. A home doesn’t need a lot of different materials t A home doesn’t need a lot of different materials to feel interesting. It needs the right ones repeated well. This project is still getting its finishing touches, but one of my favorite things about it is the material palette we carried throughout the home. Warm white oak. Creamy handmade tile. Black stone. Unlacquered and aged brass. Deep, moody greens. Natural textures. And a little pattern where it could make a real impact. You’ll see the same finishes show up again and again, from the kitchen cabinetry and island, to the bar, staircase and flooring. That repetition is what allows some of the bigger moments, like the mural in the piano room, to feel intentional rather than overwhelming. It’s something I come back to constantly in design: you don’t need more to make a home feel layered. You need a strong palette and a plan for repeating it. Most people don’t have a decorating problem. They Most people don’t have a decorating problem. They have a plan problem. You can know what you like, have hundreds of saved images, and still feel completely stuck when it comes to your own home. I call it design paralysis—and I see it all the time. I’ve felt it in my own home too. We convince ourselves we need another piece of furniture, more inspiration, or maybe we just need to start over. But most of the time, we just need a plan. A clear idea of how we want our home to look, feel and function—and the confidence to actually make decisions and move forward. That’s a big part of why I started Welcome Home. I wanted a place to talk more about design, the way our homes make us feel, and how to create spaces that are beautiful but still work for real life.
